A fun new way to enjoy popcorn (one of my favorite whole grain snacks)
Air-popped popcorn is a great whole grain snack that’s low in calories and packed with fiber (it even contains some protein!). Popcorn is also a voluminous food, so it will take up space in your belly and can help fill you up. Better still, it gives you that salty, crunchy fix many people crave in a snack.
My favorite healthful way to make it is to pop it in an air-popper…toss and spray it lightly with an olive oil cooking spray…and then add some spice flavorings. Here are some of my favorite flavoring suggestions:
· Old bay seasoning
· Grated parmesan cheese
· Paprika
· Powdered peanut butter
· Salt and pepper
· Pumpkin pie spice
· Cinnamon
· Everything bagel seasoning
Want to turn it into a trail-mix? Flavor it with just a bit of sea salt and try adding slivered almonds and fresh blueberries…or dried edamame and roasted sunflower seeds…or perhaps flavor the popcorn with cinnamon and add baked apple chips and walnut pieces. The options are endless.
